The titles are purely cosmetic items. They are writings that are located above the player's name.
With the command /title you get to an overview where you can see all titles. You can also see a preview of each title by hovering the mouse over the icons.
All titles can be won in chests or obtained by trading with other players.
If you have won or acquired a title, you can redeem it by right-clicking on it.
You can then select your new title via /title.
